Software Team Project Manager

We're looking for an experienced Software Team/Project Manager whose key responsibilities will be to manage the complete lifecycle of our Windows software development projects as follows:

  • take over the management of new development projects once the client has ordered;
  • collaborate closely with the client and sales colleagues in order to fully understand the client's business and their software requirements;
  • work closely with Samarind's software director to design the database and user interfaces required;
  • produce user requirements and specification documentation;
  • plan and schedule the resources required for the project and allocate work to the developers;
  • monitor the quality of the work produced to make sure it meets both the customer's requirements and our own internal standards;
  • liaise with clients as necessary during the life of the project and beyond;
  • monitor the progress of the project and ensure that it's delivered on time and within budget
  • organise the provision of our ongoing software support services.

Most of our applications are developed using Microsoft .NET 2 and Microsoft SQL Server 2000 or 2005, but we have some legacy VB6 and Access applications that we still support and enhance. Our projects are typically between 3 and 9 man months development effort.

The right person for this position will be:

  • commercially aware, organised and professional;
  • able to communicate effectively at all levels, both verbally and in writing;
  • an experienced Microsoft developer with a keen interest in technology and how to use it to solve business challenges;
  • skilled at stepping back from a problem in order to see it in perspective and think laterally to find a solution;
  • able to manage the full project lifecycle and lead a small team efficiently and effectively.

This is a key role within Samarind and is an excellent opportunity for a committed, motivated and passionate individual who is looking for a position that combines man management with a technical role in a non-Southern location. The salary package for this role is £32,000 - £45,000 per annum + benefits + bonuses

We require an experienced Web Developer to join our website development team. Good SQL, ASP.NET (VB.NET or C#) and secure E-commerce application experience is essential. Web Designer/Developer Vacancy

We need an additional Web Designer/Developer to join our website development team. We're looking for someone with a flair for the graphical and organisational side of web site design, who also has a good working knowledge of the tools involved in creating modern, professional web sites, preferably Dreamweaver, Fireworks and Photoshop.

IT Support and Installation Engineer vacancy

We need an additional IT Support and Installation Engineer to join our team of network engineers.

The post will include:

  • installation of a variety of hardware from servers and firewalls to desktop PCs and printers;
  • supporting our existing customer base via telephone and remote access;
  • updating and creating technical documentation.

The ideal candidate will:

  • have good communication skills and an excellent customer manner;
  • be competent in Microsoft Windows Server OS's (preferably to MCSE standard but MCSE not essential);
  • have solid networking skills (TCP/IP, switches, routers, firewalls, VOIP);

Customer Service Co-ordinator

Due to our continued development we have a vacancy for our busy sales office and we are seeking a high calibre individual to perform a range of essential duties.

The successful applicant will be customer focused with at least two years sales office experience. A good standard of education and excellent written and verbal communications skills are an absolute must for this role. Experience within IT sales would be an advantage; however an interest in IT and a keen willingness to learn are essential.

The key responsibilities include:

  • Being the first point of contact for customers, on the telephone as well as meeting and greeting visitors
  • Handling customer enquiries and logging IT support calls
  • Researching products and providing advice and quotes to customers
  • Taking customer orders and processing them through SAGE
  • Updating Samarind's online shop and other areas of our website

Senior VB Database Developer vacancy

We need a clear thinking, technically expert and experienced VB Database developer who's looking for an interesting and rewarding position in a growing business with excellent prospects.

To be considered for this role you need the following:

  • at least 5 years software development experience, preferably in a commercial environment;
  • at least 3 years Visual Basic experience;
  • to have had experience of the full lifecycle of business application development;
  • ideally some experience of the .NET framework (either VB or C#);
  • preferably some experience with Microsoft SQL or Access databases;
  • an aptitude for grasping concepts and solving problems;
  • the ability to work effectively on your own as well as part of a small team;
  • to be professional, organised and a good communicator.

This position will involve the analysis, design, construction, testing, documentation, implementation and support of business database applications of typically 30-60 development days effort. Samarind has a diverse set of customers in a wide range of business sectors and our work is varied, interesting and sometimes challenging.

Our primary platform is currently VB6 front-end with a SQL 2000 back-end but we are now also working with the Microsoft .NET platform. Microsoft Access is our main data conversion tool as well as the back-end for some of our smaller applications. We use a carefully-selected set of third party components along with our own unique in-house 'Application Builder' tools to develop robust, consistent, feature rich applications as efficiently as possible. As well as developing 'real' applications you will have the opportunity to contribute to the development of these tools and generally help improve the effectiveness of our team.
