We provide consultancy services in one form or another to almost all of our customers, usually as part of an overall solution. These are our key areas of expertise.
network design
A network can be anything from a couple of PCs linked with a single piece of cable to a complex, multi-segmented, multi-domained collection of hubs, switches, routers, fibre optic backbones, modems, ISDN and leased lines and WAN links via the Internet. Designing the latter is a task that requires an in-depth knowledge of the technologies involved as well as an appreciation of the sorts of things a network is used for and where bottlenecks can occur.
network commissioning
Some of our customers have already purchased a collection of file servers and other network components but need help setting everything up. We're happy to provide this service to you, as long as we are happy that the equipment you have purchased is adequate for your needs. This might also include installing and configuring server software, for example email server software (Exchange, Domino, Groupwise) or database server software (SQL Server, Internet Information Server etc).
requirements analysis
Requirements analysis is what you do when you're not quite sure what you want or need a piece of equipment to do for you and you need to be sure before spending the money, so you get an expert in to help you decide. In our case, we're usually helping customers decide what they need from a piece of software in a particular area of their business (typically an accounting, production control or general business management system). This then leads on to helping them identify the possible vendors of the system concerned and working with them through product demonstrations and 'conference room pilots' to make the right decision.
project management
Project management is actually something that comes into all our work in one form or other. Organising resources, setting objectives, monitoring progress and keeping everyone communicating effectively throughout a project is an essential part of the design and implementation of any network installation or software development. It makes sense to offer our skills in these areas to other customers.
software assessment
Sometimes we're asked to simply give an opinion about a customer's existing business systems and provide an objective, qualitative evaluation of their suitability and effectiveness. Our combination of business and technical knowledge helps us to give you a balanced, independent and carefully reasoned analysis of what might be a troublesome system.
