IT System Design

Samarind has been designing high quality, robust networks for small and medium sized businesses for the last 25 years.

Designing a network is not just about using the latest and greatest technologies. It is about achieving a balance of three key things;

  • the company's IT requirements, taking into account what may be required in the next 3-5 years;
  • the amount of resilience required; and
  • the available budget.

Our analysis of your requirements will consider the number of users you have now and the any expected increase over the next few years; what software these people will be using; your likely email usage; what database applications you have; what remote access is required, including home workers and Smartphones; is telephone integration required; and any printing requirements.

Then we move on to discuss resilience. How business critical is each aspect of your network? In the event of a major problem, how long can you operate without it? Who are the key users or what are the key roles? How sensitive and important is your data? This will also help us recommend an appropriate disaster recovery mechanism.

Finally we need to have some idea of the amount of money you have to spend. There's no point in us designing you a superbly robust multi-server solution with the latest Storage Area Network (SAN) costing £100K if you only want to spend a quarter of that. We try to give you ballpark figures early on so that we can meet your expectations and we'll provide a number of options with associated pros and cons if necessary.

We take all the above and more into account when proposing a solution for a customer.
