Deeside based computer networks and software specialists Samarind Limited, wanted to encourage its customers to use a new dedicated area of its website, and as an incentive devised a fun Christmas competition!
Running the competition in the winter edition of the company’s newsletter, Samarind’s Carly McKay, decided to create a fun Christmas conundrum as an ideal way of encouraging customers to use the web; with the added appeal of the chance to win a brand new Apple iPOD Nano worth over £130.00.
Carly, who spends most of her working week advising Samarind’s customers on the best computer based solutions, whether it be a new business server or a complete network redesign and build, also edits the company newsletter. “The newsletter is a valuable means of keeping our customers updated with new technologies and services.” comments Carly. “However, we wanted to encourage people to make more use of the dedicated customer support tools and online ordering system on our website. We advertised the competition through the newsletter, but made it exclusively online.”
To make the competition a bit more challenging, Carly also decided that each letter of a Christmas phrase would be hidden within the secure customer area of the website, meaning a bit of effort was needed. Each letter of the phrase ‘We three kings’ were emblazoned on the chest of a series of cartoon Santas, which were strategically ‘hidden’ around the website.
“The response was immensely positive to say the least.” commented Carly “As a forward thinking company we are always looking to deliver best value to our customers. When we developed the new Samarind website, we took the conscious decision to include a secure area where customers can benefit from a number of support tools and an online shop. We are further developing the system so that our support customers can register and track support tickets via the website, which is much more convenient for them.”
“We were aware that a large percentage of customers were still a little ‘shy’ in using the online services, which are all included in their support contract and we wanted to create a fun way of encouraging them to try things out. I’m delighted with the positive response from our customers. It’s been an extremely positive experience for them and for us.”
Samarind drew the lucky winner’s name ‘from a hat’ on Monday 18th December and made the presentation to Debra Foden, IT Manager of Meadow Foods in Chester. Debra said “I’m delighted to be associated with Samarind, who have supported Meadow Foods for a number of years and support our data networks across the UK.”
“We find the secure customer area of the Samarind website very useful and naturally it’s a bonus to win such a fantastic prize at Christmas time.”
